You know, On March 18, PTA moms and dads will descend on Tallahassee to advocate for public school funding. And they're planning this after this weekend, where literally thousands of teacher's rallied for the same cause in Orlando. Progress Florida has the scoop on it all. As you know, with the budget as tight as it is, and after a rough 3 years, Florida's schools are suffering. Currently, Florida is dead last in education spending, which is a problem when you're trying to create and attract a strong workforce. Even business leaders agree, a better public education system is one of the considerations when considering to relocate out of or to Florida.
What the Florida PTA is doing is great, in my opinion. Moms and Dads should be talking with their legislators and pushing for tax reform in order to protect their children's education. And, never underestimate their efforts.
It all reminds me of another Mom who didn't think that her state legislators were listening to her either, and she eventually became a US Senator. In fact, Washington Senator Patty Murray was dismissed as just a 'Mom in Tennis Shoes,' and now she serves on the Senate committee that oversees education policy. Who wouda thunk it?
Anyways, save the date: March 18th.
