Nan Rich of Weston will be the next Democratic leader in the state Senate. She'll assume her position during the 2010 session, after current leader Al Lawson retires for term limits; Nan will be the first woman to ever hold the position. The St. Petersburg Times has more.
Sen. Frederica Wilson, of Miami, nominated Rich, calling her a "textbook example of what a leader ought to be" and "a true Democratic warrior...Sen. Lawson, I want you to remember that behind every successful man, there is always a woman just waiting for his job."
And, she's already living up to her reputation. Nan Rich predicts 3 senate seats will swing to the D column. She tells the Sun Sentinel that nine Republican senators are forced to retire in 2010 because of term limits, creating an opportunity.
Nan added: "We turned Washington blue, didn't we? I think it's time to turn Florida blue in the state Legislature."
You go, girl!
