Finally, a story that involves a Florida Republican that doesn't involve blatant corruption. No, this tale is just about pure stupidity. Question: Does Mike Haridopolos want a political future? Like, does he ever want to have a cool title like 'governor' or generally something not involving the word 'douche'?
State Senator Mike Haridopolos, R-Stupidville (actually Melbourne. I'm calling you people out: you've got Haridopolos and Bill Posey representing you.), has introduced- and it was heard in committee today- a TABOR like bill. "Taxpayers Bill of Rights": a name like Healthy Forrests Bill from the Bush Adminstration; it does anything but give taxpayers any rights. Allegedly, he's even got the support, again (for now), of Governor Charlie Crist. If it passes, it will put TABOR on the 2010 ballot.
If you don't know what TABOR is, the Orlando Sentinel describes it like this:
The plan would impose the cap on state and local governments based on the 2010-11 fiscal year, and they would need public votes to either pierce the cap or impose any new types of taxes or fees. Many a legislator in many a state has tried to introduce TABOR, but only Colorado passed it. And, it screwed them up so badly they spent millions to get it repealed. Awesome. Only good thing that happened in Colorado from TABOR is that it put the Democrats solidy in charge for a generation -- it was THAT bad.
Fortunately, we live to fight another day- the committee hearing ended without a vote. But, of course, it's expected to pass through committee tomorrow.
