Welcome to the first edition of our new regular roundup of Florida political blog links. This is really the second edition, but the first edition of our regular (hopefully daily) collection of links and one-liners.
- We've joined Dan Gelber and added twitter in our attempts at self-promotion and mocking of Republicans and Democrats alike. You can see the new twitter feed on the right side of the blog, or you can go to www.twitter.com/friedgator to check us out. Follow us on this new fad as the session starts next week.
- The Tribune calls the upcoming budget fight a gunfight in Tallahassee between the state legislators. They even quote Rep. Weatherford saying: "I feel like I'm walking into the O.K. Corral, You know there's about to be a gunfight." So, I'm guessing the Democrats are preparing the usual exercise in tactical retreats.
- Ray Seaman at Progress Florida shows how big this fight is going to get, he writes about thousands of teachers protested cuts in Orlando. Thank god some one else is pissed off besides just us for once.
- And now Flablog points out that there are a lot of battles coming up that we have no clue what they are yet. There are evidently 88 "shell bills" that are expected to be filed later even though they were required to filed before the session. So much for transparency in government.
- Governor Crist has the census on his mind, and since Democrats control the White House, he decided to waste a bit more money creating a Census Panel. Blast Off has a great run down of the ridiculous list.
- Gov. Brian Schweitzer comes to Florida to go to a local party fundraiser and stick his foot in his mouth, saying Charlie is tough to beat (true), but then says "He's doing a great job here" because he's been "bi-paritsan" (not-true). Brian, if you want to be a leader in our party, do us Florida Democrats a favor: do your job and try to elect a DEMOCRATIC governor, not re-elect a Republican one.
- Speaking of Crist doing a "good job," the Palm Beach Post says there might be thousands more in illegal contirbutions and points out there is a precedent for giving back money from a closed committee. Corruption seems to rampant in Tallahassee these days; guess it had to go somewhere with Obama kicking it out Washington? Errr or something like that.
- Adam Smith, of the St. Pete Times, shows why working as the person who goes through a politician's mail sucks after sifting through a few of Charlie' letters. Should've chosen a Congressman, Adam; you know they get sent free Hustler, right?
- Kenneth Quinell reviews Larry Sabato's first handicapping of the Florida Senate race in 2010. He says it's a Toss Up unless Charlie gets in, then it Leans Republican. [Oh and haha, Florida Dems with no backbone: insert joke here that Charlie himself only 'Leans Republican']
- And we leave you with the picture of the day, we saw at St. Petersblog designed by Pale Horse Designs. Click on read more to see it.
