According to the Buzz, North Miami Mayor Kevin Burns announced he is running for Senate today -- joining State Senator Dan Gelber and Congressman Kendrick Meek. Kevin Burns was re-elected in 2007 to his second two-year term as Mayor with 3,417 votes and 54% of the vote. While I am not sure why he's decided to jump from North Miami Mayor to Senate, but maybe he was inspired by the President's brief career (two years in the senate and four years in the state legislature). Maybe he'll even be as good, but I doubt it.
Remember for all the talk of unknowns all other people running or "considering" have been elected Statewide (Crist) in Congress (Buchanan, Mack, Meek), a Leader in the state legislature (Hasner, Bense, and Gelber), or Mayor of Tampa (Iorio) -- all for more years than Kevin Burns has been in elected office.
I am looking forward to see what he has to say -- but for now his mayoral site is all we have.
